CPPO WPS-OLC "PROJECT UBE"

“WE CAN’T HELP EVERYONE, BUT EVERYONE CAN HELP SOMEONE. – RONALD REAGAN”

In a beleaguered nation pounded by the scourge of an unseen predator, any help, no matter how small, really matters. With unemployment rising to new heights due to quarantine restrictions, those needing special medical attention slowly succumb to their battles, leaving their families devastated and helpless. Though they may not show signs of the effects of the pandemic, children are arguably the most affected, specially those suffering from lingering and life-threatening diseases like cancer.

Feeling the anguish of a mother seeing her child suffer instead of being able to laugh and play with others, the Cagayan Police Provincial Office Ladies Link, a collective of lady personnel (uniformed and non-uniformed) and Officers Ladies Club of Cagayan PPO conceptualized the Project U.B.E. (United for Baby of Eve) “Isang-daang Piso para sa Batang May Kailangan”. Project U.B.E. is a proactive program to alleviate the burden of medical expenses of the families of children afflicted with cancer.

Project U.B.E. is a proactive program to alleviate the burden of medical expenses of the families of children afflicted with cancer.

A brainchild of PMAJ AUREA AVON U LOHAN, Special Projects Officer of the Provincial Plans and Programs Unit and strongly supported by the Provincial Director, PCOL RENELL R SABALDICA and the PRO 2 Officers Ladies Club led by Mrs. Leah F. Sabaldica, President under supervision of Mrs. Lizette R. Ludan, PRO 2 OLC Adviser, the project chooses one beneficiary each month to receive financial support for their medical expenses. The fund comes from the concerted resource generation efforts of the CPPO Ladies Link, the PRO 2 OLC, and Cagayan PPO.

On September 30, 2021, Mrs. Rosalie “Lally” Eleazar, PNP OLC National Adviser spearheaded a simple ceremony that saw five children from different municipalities of Cagayan benefiting from the Project U.B.E. Joining her were Mrs. Lizette R. Ludan, Mrs. Anjanette P. Olay, Mrs. Macky Reyes, Mrs. Bong Lee, Mrs. Jona Marie Bayting, Mrs. Leah F. Sabaldica, Mrs. Shirly Lagradante, Mrs. Divina Malana, other members of PRO 2 OLC, and the CPPO Ladies Link. All warriors in their own ways, Quennie Masam, Jeff Balungaya, Jayden Narag, Clarence Fugaban, and John Malazzab battle various lingering and life-threatening diseases bravely and strongly albeit the pain afflicting them. These children should be out with their peers playing, but instead battle the unthinkable.

It may not be much, but projects like these bring out the humanity and the Bayanihan spirit among the stakeholders. Such could bring joy and smile in the faces of these brave warriors and could be enough to erase the anguish and the pain even for a while knowing that they are not alone in their battles and that there are people very much willing to extend helping hands.
